Signworld getting tropical at Chester Zoo

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011

Recently, Chester Zoo contacted The Signworld Group looking for a solution in the Tropical Realm at the zoo. Each viewing window was in-need of a jungle themed make over. Chester Zoo’s own solution involved using camouflage style netting, which partly obscure the viewing window. With a whole host of materials available to solve this problem, Signworld’s team began testing all options.

After several tests at Signworld’s Chester HQ, the team decided on a specialist, 100% optically clear, self-adhesive digital vinyl, allowing a person to see straight through without any distortion, in addition the print was laminated to allow for the windows regular cleaning without affecting the print. Signworld’s team of designers began researching different types of tropical landscapes, which would allow for an accurate scene with leaves and vines falling strategically across the window, not to fully block viewing. Once a design was created and approved by Chester Zoo’s fantastic team, a sample was produced using Signworld’s Mimaki JV3-260 Digital Printer. The Signworld solution was then ready for application to a viewing window in the tropical realm for final testing.

The Philippine Crocodile enclosure was chosen to receive the first print application. Signworld’s team of fitters delight were handpicked for the job which involved applying the clear digital print from inside the tank to the reverse side of the window. Wearing waterproof boots, the team worked within the humid temperatures to apply the vinyl prints. Being ever professional, the engineers carried out their job flawlessly as you can tell in the images below.

Signworld are shortly due to revisit Chester Zoo to install further window graphics within the tropical realm.

New Face for Getting Personal’s Manchester HQ

Monday, July 18th, 2011

The Signworld Group are no stranger to helping businesses carry their brand message across to their customers. A fantastic example of this is the recent completion of fresh new signage at the HQ of Manchester’s Getting Personal.

GettingPersonal.co.uk is an online retailer specialising in personalised and unique gift ideas. Founded in 2005, Getting Personal offer products that cannot be purchased on the high street and are always working hard to extend their range. Beginning with a personalised calendar, which today is still one of their most popular products, now growing to designing and producing many of their gifts in-house. Getting Personal take their customer suggestions very seriously and many of their products have been created as consequence.

The design, manufacture and installation was carried by utilising the in-house services from within the Signworld Group; Designers from Signworld created the concept, Metal Fabricator’s from SmartFab engineered and created the signage, and Installation Crews from Sign Maintenance UK oversaw a potential difficult fitting of all products to client satisfaction. The signage itself, which is another fine example of a bespoke package, consisted of pan-folded, powder coated white aluminum tray signs with CNC machined flat-cut letters to the face. These letters had full colour digitally printed graphics, using Signworld’s Mimaki JV3-260 digital printer, to meet with Getting Personal’s brand guidelines and an easy to digest web address was added to complete the adjacent return edge of the building front.

Along with the tray signs, Getting Personal required a sign that could be seen from the road, to help visitors find them in the bustling Manchester business park, Roundthorn Industrial Estate – which houses many respected businesses including Timpsons, Wates and AirWorld to name but a few. Signworld’s solution to the road sign requirement was a 3.5 metre, powder coated, ice white totem sign featuring 10mm thick letters bonded directly to each face of the totem. The thickness of the letters helps bring the totem sign alive. Signworld Group finished Getting Personal’s collection of signs with a clean, easy to understand directional sign, helping visitors to navigate the Getting Personal HQ.
