Naturally, Earthy, Bespoke – The Chester Fields Signs

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

Signworld Group were recently awarded with the sign contract for the prestigious ‘The Chester Fields’, a new Bar and Restaurant located within the heart of the Cheshire countryside in Mickel Trafford. On the outskirts of Chester, this newly constructed restaurant is located within an area of outstanding natural beauty. The location demanded sensitive yet eye catching signage which accurately reflected The Chester Fields business model and reputation for great food and fine wines in an enjoyable friendly and relaxing atmosphere.

New Face for Getting Personal’s Manchester HQ

Monday, July 18th, 2011

The Signworld Group are no stranger to helping businesses carry their brand message across to their customers. A fantastic example of this is the recent completion of fresh new signage at the HQ of Manchester’s Getting Personal.

GettingPersonal.co.uk is an online retailer specialising in personalised and unique gift ideas. Founded in 2005, Getting Personal offer products that cannot be purchased on the high street and are always working hard to extend their range. Beginning with a personalised calendar, which today is still one of their most popular products, now growing to designing and producing many of their gifts in-house. Getting Personal take their customer suggestions very seriously and many of their products have been created as consequence.

The design, manufacture and installation was carried by utilising the in-house services from within the Signworld Group; Designers from Signworld created the concept, Metal Fabricator’s from SmartFab engineered and created the signage, and Installation Crews from Sign Maintenance UK oversaw a potential difficult fitting of all products to client satisfaction. The signage itself, which is another fine example of a bespoke package, consisted of pan-folded, powder coated white aluminum tray signs with CNC machined flat-cut letters to the face. These letters had full colour digitally printed graphics, using Signworld’s Mimaki JV3-260 digital printer, to meet with Getting Personal’s brand guidelines and an easy to digest web address was added to complete the adjacent return edge of the building front.

Along with the tray signs, Getting Personal required a sign that could be seen from the road, to help visitors find them in the bustling Manchester business park, Roundthorn Industrial Estate – which houses many respected businesses including Timpsons, Wates and AirWorld to name but a few. Signworld’s solution to the road sign requirement was a 3.5 metre, powder coated, ice white totem sign featuring 10mm thick letters bonded directly to each face of the totem. The thickness of the letters helps bring the totem sign alive. Signworld Group finished Getting Personal’s collection of signs with a clean, easy to understand directional sign, helping visitors to navigate the Getting Personal HQ.

Yohji Yamamoto and Adidas find a home in London

Friday, April 1st, 2011

Yohji Yamamoto, a Japanese-Parisian based Fashion Designer has stores in New York, Paris, and Antwerp. In 2001, Yamamoto fused sport and style with Adidas, known as ‘Y-3′. When looking for the perfect location for the flagship store for Y-3, Yamamoto settled on the United Kingdom, specifically London, opposite his Mayfair boutique. JPH Designs, a long serving partner of Signworld Group, was commissioned to turn a prime location in London into the perfect home for Y-3.

Signworld Group have worked with JPH Designs on many high profile projects, for example the fantastic Vivienne Westwood stores across the whole of the UK or the Flannels Designer clothing store in Liverpool. Naturally, with a project like Y-3, when it came to choosing a manufacturer the highest spec external signage, JPH paid Signworld Group a visit. JPH Designs delivered the brief to Signworld Group, who immediately became excited with the proposals. Utilising SmartFab, a Signworld Group company, which operates from within the Broughton based Signworld HQ, a 17,000 sq ft factory space specialising in metal fabrication, meant all work was to be carried out in-house, by Signworld Group employees.

With an extremely tight deadline, Signworld Group had a major task to complete in very little time. SmartFab’s arsenal of the latest fabrication equipment, arming the most creative and skilled engineers, were able to rise to the call of duty and complete the project on time and on budget. The final signage was comprised of a satin black powder-coated finish to an aluminium pan-folded tray with built-up illuminated acrylic letters. An illuminated aluminium projecting sign would complete the suite of amazing signage. The images below do their best, but this sign really must be seen in person to appreciate it’s simple elegance. Signworld Group loved the opportunity to work with JPH Designs once more and Adidas and Yohji Yamamoto.

You can find the new Y-3 Flagship store at Y-3, 54 Conduit Street, London W1S 2XU. On March 10th 2011, Yohji Yamamoto official opened the new store with the help of Zinedine Zidane. Check out the images below.

New Mersey Glows again with Sign Maintenance UK

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

Sign Maintenance UK, part of the Signworld Group of companies, are a UK based signage manufacturing company with over 20 years of industry experience working with the largest brands from all sectors. Providing a comprehensive service to the sign industry, from sign installation, sign maintenance, sign servicing, sign repair and sign renovation, all of which is executed by the most highly qualified sign engineers within the industry.

Sign Maintenance UK, the Signworld maintenance division, were recently contacted by New Mersey Retail Park on Speke Road in Liverpool. Their large flagship totem signs were suffering from broken neon lighting and needed urgent repairs carrying out immediately. Sign Maintenance UK sent out a team of experienced and skilled PASMA and IPAF certified engineers in minus 15°C temperatures, with specialist access equipment to reach the tall signage and begin the repair and cleaning programme.

Work consisted of; immediately making safe all the damaged electrical elements, removing all giant 3D built-up letters, removing all the internal neon signage, fitting economic energy saving LED’s and refitting letters to look like new. Each letter was also recoated with protective paint. The team had to work with the large structure from within and replace all of the electrical components to ensure longer life following Sign Maintenance UK’s visit. Each letter uses LED lighting to glow from within and also to create a ‘halo’ effect around the letter. This effect helps create fantastic glowing letters that can be seen from far around while still saving energy.

As you can see from the photo’s below, the finished effect is stunning. The cool icey blue glow of the ‘New Mersey’ letters offset against the warm firey light of the ‘B&Q’ letters works wonderfully.

Monday, November 1st, 2010

Charlie’s Stores has recently opened its sixth Store, located on Chester Road West Queensferry. After a massive investment, the store opened its doors in March of 2010 bringing back into use an empty 40,000 square foot facility previously belonging to B&Q.

Signworld have a long relationship with the Charlie’s team and were recently contracted to erect the external & internal signage within the store which had to reinforce the company’s strong and well recognised signature brand. Charlie’s brief was to manufacture and install a massive array of 3D built up letters and flat cut letters for their building exterior. With a brief so big, Signworld relished the challenge. artwork was created in record time by Signworlds team of designers and approved by Charlies Stores quickly, impressed with the boldness of the designs. With a very tight deadline, we were instructed to proceed with the works which had to be in place for the stores opening just two weeks later.

Signworld manufactured all of the stores 3D and flat cut letters using our in-house 3 Metre x 2 Metre CNC Machine. The Letters were machined using specialist tooling operating at over  19000 RPM which ensured that we had a perfect machined edge to all of the material components. The huge 3D Built up letters and logo were fabricated using an innovative method. The faces and letters and returns were also accurately CNC machined, all returns were then hot wire formed around the face of the letter using our templates and then bonded. The finished result was a selection of perfectly machined and formed 3D Letters and logos. We’ve put a collection of  these images below of the finished works, so please take a look.
